Few things can ruin a relaxing game of billiards faster than a damaged table. True fans of the game will shell out the extra coin for a slate table, because they know they will never have to worry about the surface of the table being uneven. The reassuring heft of the slate and the resulting feel of the table make a big difference if you are serious about the game.
Unfortunately the use of slate dramatically increases both the price and the weight of the table, and if your slab breaks you have to pay a lot more to replace it.
Last month the infamous Big Shredder channel on YouTube took on a wooden pool table, which left their audience less than satisfied. To resolve this, the team performed a one of a kind redo and put a slate table into their industrial shredder.
Slabs of slate are particularly tough when they are all one piece, but once it starts to crack the slab will quickly shatter into much smaller pieces. Against the huge teeth from the industrial sized shredder, taking on a big slate tablet is something that is only possibly a problem for the first few seconds. Once it starts to crumble under the stress, the rest of the destruction is guaranteed, given the brittle nature of the stone, the indestructibility of the shredder’s teeth, and the power of its high-horsepower motor.
